Book Trailer for Liliane's Balcony!

Kelcey Parker's amazing novella-in-flash Liliane's Balcony is launching this October, and we are psyched to release the newly released book trailer to give you a sneak peak into the world of Liliane's Balcony!

Set at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, Liliane's Balcony is a multi-voiced narrative of the house, the owners Edgar and Liliane Kaufmann, and four modern-day tourists visiting the historic home.

Caitlin Horrocks, author of This is Not Your City, writes: “Liliane’s Balcony is as layered and audacious as the house at the center of the novella. Parker dances effortlessly between present and past, fact and fiction, nature and interior, lovers and out-of-lovers. The story that emerges is moving and precariously beautiful: a book that in lesser hands might have come toppling down. In Parker’s, it’s a triumph."

Liliane's Balcony will be available for preorder in August and launches in October. More details soon!

Special thanks to Jessie Eggert for producing this trailer!

Printing the Covers for The Kind of Girl

It's that time of year again! When we leave our desks and put on our printing aprons to letterpress the covers of our contest-winning chapbook! On June 11 and 12, Kathleen and I joined our head designer and letterpress printer extraordinaire Rebecca Saraceno in North Andover, Massachusetts, to print covers for Kim Henderson's The Kind of Girl. This was our seventh year printing at the amazing Museum of Printing—thanks again to them for their support and use of their Vandercook presses!

In seven years we've tried a number of exciting letterpress techniques, including using metallic inks, wood type, hand-carved artwork, and an array of paper shapes, textures, and colors. The new challenges we took on this year were using linen paper (Silvertone, by Neenah Paper) and using both ink colors on the artwork by employing an overlay technique. It was an exciting and busy couple of days and we can't wait for you to see the finished covers, available wrapped around Kim Henderson's equally gorgeous stories! Preorder is available now and the book launches August 5!

Here are some photos and videos of this year's cover printing:

The writing space of Kim Henderson...

...author of the forthcoming chapbook The Kind of Girl, is beautiful and you can read all about it here, courtesy of The Next Best Book Club's fabulous "Where Writers Write" feature. Be sure to take a look at the adorable photo of Nikki, her canine writing partner, and to read about her insight as to what member of the animal kingdom writers most resemble. Thanks, as ever, to Lori Hettler for running one of the best book clubs around.

Fourth of July Roundup

What's more Independence Day than independent publishing?

Some items worth celebrating from around the  internet include the fact that The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Writing Flash Nonfiction edited by Dinty W. Moore was selected as the fourth place winner/honorable mention in the categories of both Anthologies and Writing for the Foreword Book of the Year Awards.

Connotation Press has an interview with artist Cheryl Gross that focuses largely on her collaboration with Nicelle Davis, whose In the Circus of You is forthcoming in Spring of 2015.

And the Ilanot Review, an Israeli journal of creative writing in English, has an interview with RMP editors Abby Beckel and Kathleen Rooney in their July 2013 issue. Thanks to Janice Weizman and Marcela Sulak for the questions.

Finally, thanks to Justin McElroy for this smashing review of But Our Princess is in Another Castle by B.J. Best over at the videogame site Polygon!
